Saturday Tongan Education Program
What is STEP?
Saturday Tongan Education Program (STEP) us a weekly program that runs during the academic school year under the Asian American Resource Center (AARC) at Pomona College. Step aims to reach out to those in the Inland Empire Tongan community who seek academic assistance while also providing resources that allow for an exploration of personal identity self determination.
Our Goals
We encourage students to build their confidence in academics and in themselves, culturally and socially while providing concrete resources to supplement their growth. Through STEP, the AARC and the Tongan community hope to build relationships with and expand services to the Pacific Islander communities of the Inland Empire.
Our Program
Participants work in conjunction with students from the Claremont Colleges during STEP and throughout the week if needed. The program attendees range from those in pre-school to college, and also includes young parents and community elders. Moving forward, STEP seeks to expand and focus it’s programming for students,
