I’ve never questioned the stories of my father’s immigration to the US because I just assumed he had come the “normal way” just like everyone else. My father never shared the stories with us because it was “too shameful.” But what’s so shameful about wanting a better life? What constitutes the “normal way”? Who are we to keep out these hard working people when we are all immigrants ourselves? No one, no one’s dream is any more important that others’.
