My family followed my father to the US when he was in his mid-40s, starting out on a new career. He was the first in his family to get a college degree, and the first to leave China, where his education brought him hardship. Having encountered a golden opportunity, he moved to Austin with his family to attend law school. A typical day: go to class, scribble notes, come back tired, nap, wake up and play with the baby, eat dinner, baby starts crying, try to read, sleep. Rinse and repeat.
