Revolution. A word overused and adored by many with no experience of the word. Young idealists with their Ché shirts thinking they’ll change the world and improve it for the uneducated masses. They don’t know the effects of revolution are all around them. Turmoil and conflict of the past that has uprooted, transplanted families, changing the course of lives forever. Not immigrants of choice. No, given no choice they have come here to escape. We like to think we live in the “land of opportunity,” the immigrants’ dream come true. How many are here out of necessity I don’t think anyone claims to know. We’re all descendants of immigrants but the reasons for our ancestors’ migration in the country are widely diverse.
