What is asexuality? What does it mean to be asexual in our hyper sexualized society? How can we understand asexuality as an orientation that supports sex positivity? How can we better incorporate issues affecting the asexual community into conversations about queerness and into queer spaces? How, given negative stereotypes dubbing Asian American men as asexual, can Asian Americans reclaim a positive asexual identity? How is asexuality different for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders than it may be for other communities?
These are all questions that were asked and discussed at Q&A’s lunchtime discussion today. We hope that by holding this event, we can not only continue to raise awareness of diverse Queer & Asian Pacific Islander American issues, but also create safer spaces for those of us who resonate with these identities.
